As the moving ads on the DC Metro and NYC / NJ PATH work?
Yesterday I was riding on Metro Red Line and DC and between Metro Center and Judiciary Square, when we were in the tunnel, I looked out the window and saw ads for a cable channel and a car. These were not ordinary ads, though. They were in motion, such as Advertising and seemed to "follow" our train. My guess is that there are a series of individual frames up on the walls of the tunnel, and if you look at them while the trip to a pretty good clip, it looks like the pictures are moving. Has anyone seen this in the DC area? They are pretty cool. Does anyone know exactly how they are done?
I see these trains on the road all the time, and they're pretty cool. here are a few words about it from an article I read: "The technology is based on the zoetrope, a toy from the 19 Century that a spinning cylinder to create close to a base light source based on the illusion of movement from still images.
